Some sad news out of the Hammerhead camp. Brian Hodgson has expressed a wish retire from playing in the band, Steve & Tony have decided that if Brian goes, then it wouldnt be right to carry on, as his guitar playing is a vital part of the Hammerhead sound, as much as I would like to carry on myself, it would'nt be Hammerhead without the rest of them, so it looks like our support slot with UFO on April 22nd 2010 will be our last ever gig.
Hammerhead has always been great to us here at the Old School Metal Show over the years and we wish them nothing but the best for their future. Hopefully retirement will not sit well with them and we will be getting some new Hammerhead music very soon.

Robb Weir, who originally formed the band in 1978, has resurrected
the TygersS with a new lineup, culminating in the release of the album "Animal
Instinct" in 2008 to worldwide critical acclaim. As "Wildcat"
is very close to Robb's heart, the band has decided to pick his top five tracks
and re-record these to celebrate and remind the fans of the quality of the
album which may have been long forgotten.
The song to be included are:
Euthanasia
Slaves to Freedom

Chronos of Venom commenting on their new album, "Cronos:
The new album should be out by the summer of 2010, mate. The new tracks are
tremendous. Basically, if you think of the way Antton was playing, especially
on the last album "Hell", he is a nu-metal drummer and comes from
that kind of background. He's hung 'round Venom most of his life and it was
just good to introduce him to the whole Venom concept of playing like the
way Abaddon used to play. Basically Abaddon came from a rock background and
then basically developed a black metal, speed metal, thrash metal style. The
nu-metal drumming is very different and it was a steep learning curve for
him. At the end of the day he's got his own style and he wants to be known
for what he's done and not be in my shadow, which is totally understandable.
Some of the guys we had coming to the rehearsals were not ex-Cradle Of Filth
but they were still, "I've been in this band, I've been in that band,"
but they were all far too young, you know. We were looking for someone in
their thirties upwards who understood rock music.
Asked about the type of songs on their new album, "I would say more like
those off "Metal Black". More like our earlier stuff. "Hell"
was getting a bit too much like session tracks. Too . . . polished. And polish
isn't a good word for Venom songs. Venom songs need to be off the cuff, loose,
a little bit thrash. Once you start polishing songs up a bit much you end
up going in the wrong direction. There's a spontaneity about Venom songs that
I've always loved. When we're coming up with new Venom songs there's one thing
that I always try and keep in mind: "Is that kid in his bedroom on his
knees playing air guitar and going 'Yeah! Get in!'" You know? I'm not
interested in Joe Satriani sitting there and discussing whether it's technically
correct or not! That's the last thing on my mind.
Raven has inked a deal with Metal Blade Records for the U.S. release of its new album, "Walk Through Fire". The CD, which came out in Japan in March 2009 via King Records, was recorded at the Assembly Line Studios.
Due in the U.S. on March 30 (one day earlier in Europe through SPV/Steamhammer), Raven's first album since 2000's "One for All" contains 14 new songs and two live bonus tracks.
23 years after the release of its last studio album back in 1986, Black Rose will put out its third LP, tentatively titled "Cure For Your Disease", in early 2010. As a taster for the upcoming album, some new song samples have been uploaded to the band's MySpace page.
Black Rose is featured in "No Sleep Till Saltburn", an affectionately humourous look at the NWoBHM scene of the mid-1980s, which was released this past Halloween. The book can now be purchased via Lulu.com and it comes with a free download link with each purchase for a brand new Black Rose track called "Twice Shy Once Bitten".
